Temperature control and shaking come standard.
The patented multichannel optical design of the SpectraMax® Plus384 Absorbance Microplate Reader mimics a dual beam spectrophotometer, measuring each sample in the plate directly, eliminating measurement error due to variations in light output between optical fibers on other instruments for more reliable data reporting. The nine-channel system delivers both high precision and speed when reading cuvettes, 96-well, and 384-well microplates for endpoint measurements, kinetic assays, and spectral scans. The optical system of SpectraMax Plus384 Microplate Reader is built around a monochromator, which allows for selection of up to six wavelengths at a time for absorbance detection in the UV-visible wavelength range (190 nm - 1000 nm). Narrow 2nm bandwidths deliver increased measurement accuracy and linearity over the widest range of assays, including ELISAs in the visible range or DNA quantitation in the UV range.
The SpectraMax® Plus can read as low as 2μL with the μMax Low Volume Plate. The SpectraMax® also uses patented PathCheck® Pathlength Measurement Technology: the only temperature independent pathlength correction for microplates.
Technical Notes
The unit passed the self test upon initialization. All buttons are responsive. Heating to 37C was successful. The drawer opens and closes smoothly. We connected the unit to a laptop loaded with Softmax Pro software, and the software was able to detect and control the unit. We performed a validation run with an ABS1 validation plate. The results are shown in the pictures. Only the stray light test at 340nm was slightly out of specs. We collected a full spectrum using a Ho2O3 standard solution in the cuvette mode, and the peak positions are largely accurate.
Note that the laptop and the software are not included.
