Technical Notes

The Chiller cools very quickly to 5 °C. When the chiller was connected to the S1 ultrasonicator using chiller hose (silicone tubing insulated by rubber foam), the system reached an equilibrium in about 30 minutes, with the bath temperature of the ultrasonicator slightly higher than the set value of 5 °C.

Degassing pump on the S1 unit works as intended. The unit has a 6mm microtube holder. During the test run, we could hear high frequency rattling sound, we could see agitation in the sample tube, and the control software showed normal output power profile.

Defects

Minor scuffs and stains. The sonolab application has a weird bug, that sometimes the software freezes when opened. You have to force shut it and try opening again. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries for the software to initialize successfully. We put a text document on the desktop explaining the issue and the workaround. This may be a software/compatibility issue. There are some crack lines at the lower left corner of the water bucket. The cracks are only on the outer layer and the inner layer is still intact (see last picture), so they won't result in leakage.
