Nanodrop Express is a complete high-throughput solution for low-volume, high-precision pipetting. The system has interchangeable, fixed-tip heads and comes with two plate positions that enable applications such as assay miniaturization, DNA normalization, method development, PCR and NGS reaction setup, or protein crystallography. The patented technology isolates the solenoid dispense actuators from the sample path to assure long life and easy, low-cost maintenance – even with regular use of difficult suspensions such as proteins, cells and YOx beads.

Technical Notes

The unit was set up following the steps in the installation guide of the manual. which included all tube connections, electrical connections and installation of a licensed Nanobuilder software on a Dell laptop. Upon starting the unit, we could hear clicking and hissing sound coming from the digital pressure regulator bringing the system pressure to 12 psi. The software recognized the unit with no issue. Sparging was performed. Then procedures within the “installation prime” in Nanobuilder was performed, which included priming the path, back-flushing all 16 tips, tip installation and setting of height, tip and harness cleaning.

We then built a standard procedure in Nanobuilder for dispensing on a 96 welll plate. The steps are initialization, aspirate air gap, aspirate reagent, predispense, dispense on the fly, eject, wash and rinse. All steps were successfully performed. See the video.

We did not perform calibration, since the buyer is advised to perform your own calibration for your pipetting condition (reagent, pipetting volume, pressure, etc.), in order to achieve optimal pipetting precision.

We performed all steps in “prepare for shipping” in the Nanobuilder, except decontamination, since only distilled water and isopropyl alcohol were used. The procedure dried out all the fluid paths. Tips were removed and stored in a vial.

The unit came from a Fortune 500 company. Although no date of manufacture was displayed on the unit, judging from the label on the installation disc, we believe the unit was likely first deployed in 2016.

The buyer will need to supply your own helium tank and pressure reservoir. The pressure reservoir can be purchased from Alloy Product Corp for about $1000, depending on the reservoir size.

Please follow the instructions in the installation section of the manual strictly. Misuse by the user will void the warranty. We can provide help with installation remotely if needed.
